Entering the US Market: A PR Checklist for International Startups

The United States is the biggest prize for many startups, and one of the hardest markets to enter. American buyers have plenty of choice, and most have never heard of a company from Dubai, Lagos, Berlin or Karachi. Before they trust you with their money, they look you up.

What they find in those first searches decides a lot. This PR checklist covers the basics to have in place before and during a US launch, so entering the US market feels less like a leap in the dark.

1. Make your website feel local

  • Show prices in US dollars.
  • Use US spelling and date formats (October 3, 2026, not 3 October 2026).
  • Add a US phone number or a clear way to reach support during US business hours.
  • Explain shipping, taxes or service availability for US customers on one simple page.

Small details like these tell visitors you are serious about serving them.

2. Prepare a short company story for American readers

US journalists and buyers want to know three things fast: what you do, who it is for and why you are entering their market now. Write a 100-word company description that answers those questions without jargon. You will use it in every announcement, pitch and profile.

3. Announce your US launch properly

A US launch is real news. Announce it with a press release that includes:

  • A US city in the dateline, such as “AUSTIN, Texas”, if you have a US office or launch location
  • A quote from your founder about why the US matters to the company
  • Clear details: what is launching, where, and from what date
  • Contact details for US media questions

To reach American outlets, look for a service that offers press release distribution to US business, finance and local news sites, and that gives you a report showing exactly where the release was published.

4. Build a page of proof

Americans rely heavily on reviews and third-party mentions. Create a simple “In the News” or “Press” page on your website. Add links to every article, interview and published release about your company. Update it each time something new appears.

Also collect reviews on the platforms your US customers use, whether that is Google, Trustpilot, G2 or an app store.

5. Show up where your buyers read

Every industry has its own trade publications, podcasts and newsletters. Make a list of five that your US customers follow. Pitch one useful idea to each: a guest article, an interview or a data point from your own business.

One article in the right trade newsletter can matter more than ten mentions on general sites.

6. Keep announcing after launch

The biggest mistake international companies make is going quiet after launch day. Plan at least one announcement a quarter for your first year in the US: a first US client, a new partnership, a local hire, a product update made for American customers.

Each one adds to the public record buyers find when they search for you. You can see the kind of announcements companies publish at kingnewswire.com.

Quick checklist

  • ☐ Website in US dollars, US spelling and US date format
  • ☐ 100-word company description for US readers
  • ☐ US launch press release with a US dateline
  • ☐ “In the News” page on your website
  • ☐ Reviews on the platforms US buyers use
  • ☐ Five US trade publications to pitch
  • ☐ One announcement planned per quarter

Entering the US takes time. A clear story, steady news and visible proof make that time shorter.
